Time Zone Converter

Use this time zone converter to see the time in up to ten places at once, or to convert one moment, such as a 3:00 PM Eastern call, into every city on your list. Daylight saving time, half-hour offsets like India's and the date line are handled for you, and a timeline shows when everyone is at work.

How to use the world clock and converter

  1. Add places. Search by city, country, zone id, abbreviation or offset (UTC+2). Your own zone is added on your first visit.
  2. Choose the reference. Other rows show their difference from the first row. The star makes another row the reference; the arrows or the drag handle reorder rows.
  3. Pick a time. Clocks are live by default. Drag the cursor on the 24-hour timeline, tap an hour or type a date and time for the reference place. Now returns to live mode.
  4. Plan a meeting. Hours when every place is in working hours are outlined in green.
  5. Check clock changes. The DST panel shows whether each place is on daylight saving time and its next change.
  6. Share it. Toggle 12/24-hour time, copy a link to the same places and time, or download a calendar file (.ics) listing every local time.

Without JavaScript, a simple form converts one time into up to three zones.

How the conversion works

A time zone is not a UTC offset. New York's zone, America/New_York, uses UTC−5 (EST) in winter and UTC−4 (EDT) in summer. Each place is linked to an IANA zone, and your browser supplies the offset in force at the chosen instant. Local time is UTC plus that offset; the difference between two places is the difference of their offsets at that instant.

A place is on DST when its offset is above its standard offset, the lowest offset in the 12 months around the date. The next change is found by scanning the coming 366 days.

A time skipped when clocks spring forward moves ahead by the gap: 2:30 AM in New York on March 8, 2026 becomes 3:30 AM EDT. A repeated time takes its first occurrence: 1:30 AM on November 1, 2026 is read as EDT. The page warns you in both cases.

Examples

New York and London: the gap that changes

The US and Europe change clocks on different Sundays, so a 3:00 PM call in New York does not always land at the same time in London:

Arizona and Hawaii

Phoenix stays on UTC−7. At 9:00 AM there on July 15, 2026 it is 9:00 AM in Los Angeles and 12:00 PM in New York; on January 15, 2027 it is 8:00 AM and 11:00 AM. Honolulu (UTC−10) at 9:00 AM is 3:00 PM in New York in July, 2:00 PM in January, and 4:00 AM the next day in Tokyo in both.

Chicago to India and Nepal

8:00 PM in Chicago on Monday, October 19, 2026 is 6:30 AM Tuesday in Kolkata (+10 h 30 min) and 6:45 AM in Kathmandu. On November 16, after the US falls back, it is 7:30 AM and 7:45 AM.

Reading the results

Rows show working hours (9 AM–6 PM local), outside working hours (7–9 AM, 6–10 PM), night, weekend (by country, e.g. Friday–Saturday in Saudi Arabia) or public holiday. Only national holidays of the US (federal, observed dates), Brazil, Spain, France and Germany are shown, not state or local ones.

If no hour suits everyone, dashed hours mark the least bad options, a rough score for the reference place's day. Abbreviations are ambiguous (IST is India, Ireland or Israel), so pick by city.

Frequently asked questions

When does daylight saving time start and end in the US?

Since 2007, under the Energy Policy Act of 2005, clocks go forward at 2:00 AM local time on the second Sunday of March and back on the first Sunday of November: March 8 and November 1 in 2026, March 14 and November 7 in 2027.

Does Arizona observe daylight saving time?

Most of Arizona doesn't, nor do Hawaii and the US territories. A state may exempt itself, but it must then keep standard time all year.

Why is London sometimes only 4 hours ahead of New York?

The EU and the UK switch on the last Sunday of March and October at 1:00 UTC, two or three weeks after the US in spring and one week before it in fall. In those weeks the gap is 4 hours instead of 5.

Is ET the same as EST?

No. ET is the zone; EST (UTC−5) is its winter time and EDT (UTC−4) its summer time. “3 PM EST” in July is technically wrong.

Is UTC the same as GMT?

For clock times, yes: both are offset zero. GMT is also UK winter time; London uses BST (UTC+1) in summer.

How up to date is the time zone data?

It is the IANA tz database built into your browser; nothing is downloaded. British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba and Morocco changed rules in 2026, and their rows warn you if your browser's data is older.
